Final Blog

Thank you to those who organised this training package. I loved the format and the content. Just the sort of information which is useful to know about and hopefully to use at different opportunities – both at work and home.

I loved the Protopuppy. I liked creating a Protopage, too.

What I didn’t like was not having time to play around with some of the features more, but because it was a set number of Things to do in a period of time as part of a training package, it did actually make me at least get on and complete each Thing. I might not have done that if it was presented as something to have a go at when you could. It was all practical stuff which I can see myself using sometime, if I’m not already (eg Meetomatic, RSS, other Browsers, Cite-U-Like)

Hope to get around to reading some of the Blogs too!

What did I miss commenting on?

My Library I think. I hadn’t been aware of the options available with this, so it was useful to have some examples and ideas to practise with. Also, the facility to insert searches from PubMed.

Last 2 Things

Just about managed to squeeze these last 2 in!

Library Thing – very timely – I am working on preparing reading lists for a Nursing Group – I might look in to using this to make them more user-friendly. Looks like it could make the job a bit easier too, by helping to collate the items.

Cite-U-like – apart from the name, I like this as a tool. I think it will come in very handy, as there are a lot of readers working on essays and dissertations who ask for help with citation. This could be a great help in formatting their references in the chosen format.

Catching up

Am gradually catching up with the Things. Find them really useful to learn about and to have specific tasks to do to get used to the ones I don’t use that much. Meetomatic of course essential for organizing social dates! And had good practice with RSS & widgets on the Protopage. All very handy – just wish I had more time to play! Steal a few moments at home to have a quick look but will aim to catch up by the Christmas Study Day!

Protopage

Enjoyed playing with the protopage widgets!

Find WordPress here a bit faffy.

Still tricky to find a moment to have a look at the Things but it’s all useful stuff when I do.

Useful to know about the licences & alternatives to Google images.

Browsers – quick peek

Tricky to find “windows” to look at the 19 things, but they all look really handy so am trying to keep up from home.

As for browsers, am lucky enough to have Chrome & Firefox installed on the PCs I use at work (so I can access OLIB & edit Netvibes) which makes life easier. However – still haven’t got time to have a fiddle about with favourites and tabs much! Will when I get a chance…..

Creative commons next time..

First post woo

My thoughts on the 19 things programme so far – easy to follow and really useful stuff to know about. It’s good to just get stuck in with doing it. A few glitches include not being able to access the blog things at work and not having time to fiddle around with it anyway.

I’ve used QR codes before for our Library leaflets and worked out how to create them. Wordle is good fun.

I had to have a chuckle ( and hope I’m not the only one) about using Hotmail as a teenager.. When I was a teenager we had a landline on a telephone table in the hall that we could only use quickly for arranging to meet friends or if we were really stuck with our maths homework. No chatting for hours. If we wanted to do that, we met up with our friends – fancy that.

It’s good to have a go at blogging, but it has shades of Round Robins to me….
